The purpose of this assignment is to take a theory and show how it is related to a situation. Write an essay (at least 1,500 words) based on how Peter Cave’s “Man or Sheep?”Download “Man or Sheep?” is related to the student’s life. You can focus on either college or high school. Use only Cave’s article, provided by Canvas,Download Cave’s article, provided by Canvas, as support; do not use any other form of Cave’s article found on the Internet. Also, do not do any research for this paper. You just need to apply Cave’s theory to the way you see your school environment. You can focus on life both on and off campus but focus solely on how school rules and regulations turn students into sheep; do NOT focus on peer pressure, trends or family issues since those are not school regulations. First, your introduction must begin with opening statements to lure in your reader, followed by a one-sentence summary of Cave’s article and then your thesis statement, which must be at the end of the introduction. Be specific in your thesis and include a plan of development to let the reader know exactly what to expect in the essay. Then, relate Cave’s argument to situations in a student’s life. For each body paragraph, start with a topic sentence related to the thesis. You will need support (quotes from Cave), either directly or indirectly, and cite each quotation using the MLA format. You will also need explanations and specific examples to show the relationship between each quotation and your topic sentence. Be very specific and detailed. For your last body paragraph, find a “solution”. Cave argues that we should stop being “sheep” and think for ourselves. So how is this possible? Is there a reasonable solution for the school situation? If so, explain the solution and how it would work. If not, explain why no solution would work. Be very specific and detailed. Finally, your conclusion must start with a one-sentence restatement of your thesis, followed by final thoughts to leave an impression on your reader. The essay must be typed and double-spaced and must follow the MLA format. You will need a title page (with a creative, eye-catching title) and a Work Cited Page. For this paper, you are allowed to use first-person (such as “I” and “we”) and second-person (such as “you”). Below is an essay checklist that I use for the essay.
