Gestalt principles of perception, such as proximity and similarity, illustrate how the mind efficiently organises visual information into meaningful patterns without exhaustive analysis (Wertheimer, 1923). This efficiency is evident in tasks like object recognition, where individuals can identify familiar items in milliseconds, drawing on parallel processing in the visual cortex (Treisman, 1980). Such mechanisms arguably support the claim of high efficiency, as they conserve cognitive resources for higher-order tasks.
Furthermore, in rational decision-making, humans often approximate optimality under ideal conditions.
