Marquez uses everyone’s solitude to symbolize the isolation experienced by the Buendia family. The recycling of names from the family puts them all into an inescapable fate, like those given the name Aureliano are gifted with some sort of mental ability while also being far more solitary than the rest of the family, and those of Jose Arcadio are hedonistic and strong yet forced to meet a tragic end. Things will always go the same for them. Colonel Aureliano Buendia wanted to escape from his mistakes and past, wanting to erase any trace of who he was previously, but in turn ends up becoming a hermit who isolates himself from the rest of the Buendias. Remedios was disconnected from everyone with her beauty and purity, to the point where she flew off as if she were an angel. Jose Arcadio Buendia was one of the only ones to see the truth, the only one to see past the natural order and cycle that everyone was stuck in, but he was alone in this and was tied to a tree for his “madness”.
