For my midterm research paper, I will examine how financial technology, specifically QuickBooks and Microsoft Excel, is used to improve efficiency and organization in the real estate development and construction industry. This paper will focus on both the developer side and the vendor/contractor side to provide a more complete understanding of how these tools are used across different roles within the same industry. I will explain how these technologies help businesses manage financial records, track payments, organize invoices, and support decision-making in a way that is clear and understandable from a business perspective rather than a technical one. To meet the requirement of multiple examples, I will analyze how these tools are used by real estate developers, construction companies, and vendors or subcontractors, highlighting the differences in how each uses financial systems in their daily operations. In addition to outside research, I will conduct an interview with a business professional who has over five years of experience in bookkeeping or financial management to gain real-world insight into how these systems are used in practice. This interview will be included in a dedicated section of the paper. Finally, the paper will conclude with a reflection on what I have learned, including new insights about how financial technology connects different sides of the industry and improves overall business efficiency.
